A woman has been charged in connection to a March 27 shooting that claimed the life of a North Augusta man.

Shirlette Hayes, 29, turned herself into police around 9:30 p.m. April 3, according to a media release from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Hayes was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Her arrest comes after 32-year-old Tavaris Burley was killed in the 900 block of Old Aiken Road . Police said Burley was found lying face down next to a car, and deputies assisted the victim until Aiken County EMS arrived.

Witnesses told police they saw suspects drive away from the incident.

Police are still looking for a second suspect, Stephon Xzavier Dunbar, who is still at large and the investigation is ongoing.

Hayes is booked as an inmate at the Aiken County detention center and has no bond.
