College of Charleston basketball coach Chris Mack has received three verbal commitments from the transfer portal for the upcoming season.
St. Louis University point guard Djordje Curcic, Xavier big man Lazar Djokovic and Lipscomb guard Derrin Boyd have committed to Mack over the past four days.
Earlier in the week, Curcic became the first player to verbally commit to the Cougars' program since Mack took over on April 2.
The 6-2 Curcic, a freshman, broke his foot midway through this past season and played in only games 18 for the Billikens.
Curcic averaged 2.9 points and shot 43 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
Boyd, a 6-3, 210-pund graduate transfer, was among the Atlantic Sun Conference’s top scorers, averaging 17.6 points a game while earning second team all-league honors.
Boyd recorded nine 20-point games, including a season-high 38-point performance against Florida Gulf Coast in January.
The 6-10 Djokovic, a freshman, recorded seven starts for the Musketeers during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 2.8 points and 2.9 rebounds a game for Xavier.
Djokovic and Curcic played for U19 and U18 Serbian national youth teams, respectively, this past summer.
Djokovic averaged 14.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.0 steal for Serbia in seven games at the FIBA U19 World Cup. Curcic helped lead Serbia to a bronze medal in the FIBA U18 European Challengers, where he averaged 12.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
Mack took over the Cougars program almost two weeks ago, after former CofC coach Pat Kelsey left the downtown school to take the head coaching position at Louisville.
Seven players that could have returned to the College of Charleston for next season have moved on since Kelsey’s departure, including the team’s top scorer in Reyne Smith.
Smith and freshman James Scott followed Kelsey to Louisville, while Ben Burnham committed to Virginia Tech.
Freshman Mayar Wol entered the transfer portal earlier this week. Redshirt freshmen guards Jordan Crawford and Khalil London also have entered the transfer portal, along with reserve guard Evan Kilminster.
Two starters that will return next season at guard CJ Fulton and forward Ante Brzovic.
Brzovic, a 6-10 junior, was the first CofC player to enter the transfer portal after the conclusion of the season but had second thoughts, announcing on Wednesday that he will remain at the downtown school.
Brzovic averaged 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds for the 27-8 Cougars last season, helping the team to a Coastal Athletic Association title and NCAA Tournament berth and earning All-CAA honors in the process.
He had originally entered his name in the portal before Kelsey was hired by Louisville.
Fulton, a junior, averaged 4.1 points a game, but led the team with 145 assists with just 35 turnovers. He was among the nation’s leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio.
