Shane Beamer continues to elevate South Carolina to new heights, bringing the Gamecocks' sixth highest-ranked recruit home to Columbia.
Shane Beamer has boasted an already impressive track record with South Carolina thus far. Beamer has led South Carolina to some of their best recruiting classes in years, brought one of the highest-ranked players in the transfer portal, Spencer Rattler, to Columbia, and tallied back-to-back top-ten wins against Tennessee and Clemson. While those accolades and accomplishments illustrate a widely successful coaching tenure thus far, Beamer might have achieved his biggest feat Wednesday.
News broke Wednesday afternoon that Nyckoles Harbor, five-star ATH/TE from the DMV, would be committing to South Carolina, leaving fans in a frenzy. While the excitement of landing a five-star is and should be immense, Harbor's commitment means far more for South Carolina than simply landing a five-star.
Not only is Harbor Beamer's first five-star with South Carolina, but he is also the program's first five-star since Jordan Burch, who was a part of the 2020 recruiting class. Whether you are Georgia or Akron, receiving a five-star rating will always be impressive, but Harbor's commitment means more for South Carolina.
Harbor comfortably ranks as Beamer's highest-ranked recruit since taking the job at South Carolina, a sign of South Carolina's growing legitimacy as an elite program. The Gamecocks also outlasted S-tier programs to land the two-sport athlete. It seemed that Harbor's final three schools were Michigan, Oregon, and South Carolina, and both other schools strongly pushed for Harbor. Reports also suggested that South Carolina was no longer the front-runner this morning. However, the Gamecocks walked away as winners of the Harbor sweepstakes.
Being able to compete with schools like Georgia, Alabama, USC, Michigan, and Oregon in recruiting is already difficult. Landing top recruits that those schools are in pursuit of is even more challenging, and that is exactly what South Carolina did.
Harbor's recruitment also is a landmark for South Carolina's program. He officially ranks as the seventh-highest recruit in program history according to the 247 Sports Composite. Harbor is ranked one spot higher than former Gamecock CB and NFL DPOY Stephon Gilmore, placing him in elite company.
Shane Beamer continues to push the boundaries for South Carolina, and Harbor is just another indicator of growing success and the building of an elite college football program.
