During Tuesday night’s Aiken County Board of Education meeting, SRP Federal Credit Union presented the Affinity Debit Card Program earnings for 2023 to the district with an honorary check.
The 2023 earnings for Aiken County were $256,658.70. A symbolic check was handed over by Grace Helms, SRP’s Assistant Vice President of Community Development, to Superintendent King Laurence.
SRP’s Affinity Card program, which was established in 2018, provides funding to local high schools. Through the program, high schools can choose their own card design, and when a purchase is made using a high school debit card, SRP donates a percentage of each transaction to whichever school that particular card represents.
Helms announced that Aiken County has recently reached an “amazing” milestone with the Affinity Debit Card Program, having now earned over $1 million for local schools since the inception of the program.
Helms said of the partnership between SRP and the Aiken County Public School District: “We truly appreciate it and look forward to continuing this program with you in the future.”
Laurence spoke about this partnership, saying that the proceeds from the debit card program can help cover costs wherever the district’s budget might be sparse or insufficient.
“It gives a lot of additional income for our high schools that they’re able to use to fill in gaps,” he said.
Laurence added that the partnership with SRP is something that the school district has been grateful for over the past five years.
“We have enjoyed a great relationship with SRP. In fact, I can’t think of another partnership that we have with anyone that has been so lucrative for our schools,” he said.
