Internal Medicine Associates of Aiken

Since 1998, Internal Medicine As- sociates of Aiken, or IMAA, has been a primary care practice, committed to pro- viding excellent healthcare to the Aiken community.

Founded by Dr. Gerald Gordon, M.D., F.A.C.P., who specializes in internal med- icine and infectious disease medicine, the practice has grown to include about 25 employees.

“Our board certified physicians diag- nose and treat a wide array of conditions and diseases from ages 18 and up,” says their website available at imaaiken.com.

The practice offers services such as travel vaccines and education, diabetic education and most recently including a geneticist.

IMAA travel clinic allows people about to travel, to sit down with a Doctor and discuss important topics such as the vac- cines that are recommended before travel- ing to another country. That also includes things that a traveler might not think of such as, what foods to stay away from and where to go for clean water.

“IMAA’s Travel Clinic offers immuni- zations and counseling for international travel,” says their website. “Based upon where you are traveling, we will supply you with the medical advice to ensure that your trip is a safe one.”

IMAA also has a very strong diabetic program, educating about many top-

ics such as, monitoring blood sugars, physical activity, nutritional management, medication, acute and chronic complica- tions, risk reduction, lifestyle changes and much more.

“Our Diabetes Self-Management Educa- tion program has assisted patients with their diabetic care since 2004,” says the website. “Our Certified Diabetes Educa- tor and Registered Dietician work togeth- er to teach people how to manage their diabetes.

IMAA’s Registered Dietician can help patients of diabetes set up a meal plan, and understand the lifestyle changes that will reduce the risks of complications.

Understanding diabetes is the first step in managing it, and the physicians of IMAA are more than willing to help with that.

IMAA also has a full, office staff who work to make each visit as easy as pos- sible, assisting with billing, medical re- cords, prescription refills, appointments and any questions a patient might have.
