Frito Lay is establishing a small waystation for its snacks in the Sweetwater area of Edgefield County.
That’s the construction now going up at the corner Sweetwater Road and the Murrah Road extension, across from the Vintage at Sweetwater senior living apartments.
Frito Lay purchased the 5.5-acre property for $550,000 last April, property records show.
Daniel Tanner, who is handling development for the corporation, told Edgefield County planning commissioners last summer that the warehouse is expected to staff one person for the facility and see 28 truck drivers involved in operations there.
Semis carrying “salty snacks,” as Tanner put it, will bring their loads in at night, and smaller distribution trucks will leave the next day to stock local stores. Tanner said it was a minimum commitment by Frito Lay to be established at Sweetwater for 10 years.
Frito Lay joins several small-scale commercial-industrial investments already established on Sweetwater, including Kinder Morgan, Buckeye Terminals and Colonial Pipeline.
