Michael Frazier speaks to the Aiken City Council March 11.

A prayer parade will be held in Aiken this weekend.

People Helping People Ministry will hold a prayer march through downtown Aiken at 10 a.m. Saturday. An event at Beverly D. Clyburn Generations Park will follow at noon.

"We ask you to join us in a prayer march," Michael Fraizer of People Helping People said in a flyer. "Our primary purpose is to pray and seek God's face in accordance with 2 Chronicles 7:14."

The seventh chapter of 2 Chronicles tells of the dedication of Solomon's Temple to God and God's covenant with the Israelites regarding the temple.

In the 14th verse of the chapter, God says, "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land" according to the New International Version of the Bible

"We are asking our community leaders, including our elected and appointed public officials, our public safety officers, our school leaders and concerned citizens, to join use in repentance, prayer and fasting for our nation," Frazier continued.

People Helping People usually holds smaller marches throughout Aiken, Frazier said. However, God told him to expand the parade and expand it to include the event at Generations Park, he continued. Holding the parade at Easter allows the community to really focus on the reasons Jesus went to and died on the cross, Frazier added.

Lineup for the parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Gyles Park near the Aiken Railroad Depot
