A Warrenville man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Aiken County Sheriff's deputies arrested Carlton James Shaw on Friday.

According to an incident report, Shaw shot at another man on April 17, 2021 on Huber Clay Road near Langley

The man said Shaw shot at him three times, the report continued. The man said the shots hit the bike he was sitting on and a tree he jumped behind, the report added.

The man who was shot at said he initially did not report the incident because he was "going to take care of it himself," according to the report. However, the man changed his mind and reported the incident.

The man also said Shaw had been attempting to kill him for a while, according to the report.

Two witnesses said they were walking nearby when the shooting occurred.

One witness reported she saw Shaw in the backseat of a car, heard the shots and saw Shaw run after the shots.

The other witness said he saw Shaw and the other man arguing and said Shaw fired "four or five" shots at the other man.

Attempted murder is a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, according to the South Carolina Code of Laws.

Shaw was also charged with third-degree assault and battery in connection with an incident that occurred Jan. 17.

A woman alleged Shaw pulled her inside a residence on Wall Street in Beech Island then struck her with an open hand "a few times."

Third-degree assault and battery is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail or a $500 fine according to South Carolina law

An Aiken County magistrate set Shaw's bail at $50,000. However, he was still in the Aiken County detention center as of 4 p.m. Monday.
